Grants Training for Mongolian community non-profits
About the Speaker
Gisella Faggi is writer, translator, and non-profit consultant with a deep interest in how migration, borders, and conflict shape lives.
As a non-profit professional with 15 years of experience working within the sector, she has a proven track record of developing and managing organizational and program budgets of up to $2.5 million, managing coalitions and subcontracting agencies, strategic planning and leadership development, designing and evaluating programs, conducting community needs assessments, drafting content for websites, fundraising campaigns, and technical material, and grants development, management, and writing.
She has a special interest in supporting organizations that work in the fields of immigrant and refugee rights. Currently, she is pursuing a Master of Arts in Refugee Protection and Forced Migration Studies with the University of London, where she is developing a thesis on the intersection of art and citizenship in Italy.
Grants and fundraising training helps nonprofits serving the Mongolian community grow and make a bigger impact. The training teaches how to find funding, write grant proposals, and work with donors. We invite community leaders to join and gain the tools to bring lasting change.

Managing Director - Strategy and Growth Copper at Rio Tinto | Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Munkhsukh is a Managing Director at Rio Tinto where he is overseeing the growth and development of its copper portfolio including OT and other projects located globally.
He started his career at CITCO, a funds service company in the US, and was an important enabler of its accelerated growth throughout in the mid-2000s. He returned to Mongolia in 2008 to set up a investment fund and later in 2009 joined Newcom group to lead its domestic airline business “Eznis” through the boom and bust of mining cycle in Mongolia.
Munkhsukh joined Rio Tinto in 2013 at OT to lead its power strategy unit and lead the negotiation with Government of Mongolia on underground expansion as well as power related issues. He moved to Brisbane in 2016 to oversee strategic development projects including the company’s green energy strategy.
He holds a MBA degree from UC Berkeley and a black belt jiu-jitsu wrestler and currently serves as the president of the Jiu-Jitsu Association of Mongolia. An avid mountain climber, Munkhsukh is a father of four boys.

Professor of Mongolian Studies at University of Pennsylvania
After getting A.B. from Harvard University (1986), where he was introduced to Mongolian and Chinese studies by Joseph Fletcher and Francis W. Cleaves, Christopher Atwood spent two years in Inner Mongolia, traveling and taking classes in the Mongolian language and literature department at Höhhot’s Inner Mongolia Normal University. Prof. Atwood received his Ph.D. from Indiana University’s Central Eurasian Studies Department, where he worked with György Kara, Lynn Struve, Elliot Sperling, and Jeff Wasserstrom.
Ambassador Slutz is the president of The Mongolia Society. She was a career member of the United States Foreign Service who served as U.S. Ambassador to Burundi from November 2009 until February 2012 and as U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia from September 2003 to September 2006. She was the recipient of two U.S. Department of State Superior Honor Awards and the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive. Ambassador Slutz retired on April 30, 2012, but continues to work part-time for the Office of the Inspector General, U.S. Department of State. She holds an MA in Asian Studies from the University of Hawaii.

Dr. Oyun served as the first President of the United Nations Environment Assembly and the Chair of the Global Water Partnership. She also served both as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Environment and Green Development in Mongolia. A geochemist by training, with a Ph.D in Earth Sciences from the University of Cambridge, Dr. Oyun’s active public life extends beyond environmental protection to include advancing civil and social rights. Oyun is a member of advisory boards of a number of global initiatives including the Green Growth Knowledge Platform, Future Earth, and International Environment Technology Centre of UNEP. She is also the founding member and the Chair of the Special Olympics Mongolia and heads the Zorig Foundation, a Mongolian NGO that advances democracy and supports youth and education.
Managing Director at Morgan Stanley
Tserennadmid is a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, a premier global bank headquartered in the United States. Tserennadmid joined the Firm in 2002 and is currently the CFO for the global Institutional Equity Division. Tserennadmid earned her Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting from Baruch College in 2001 and earned an MBA from New York University in 2006. She lives in Greenwich, Connecticut with her husband and two young sons.
Director of Product Management at Salesforce
Suvda Myagmar, PhD is a Director of Product Management at Salesforce, the #1 provider of enterprise cloud technology. During her eventful career in Silicon Valley, she served as product and engineering lead at large and small tech companies such as Microsoft, Adobe, Yahoo, and a number of startups. As an entrepreneur, she founded her own startup Piqora and successfully raised funds and launched products. An engineer by training, Suvda earned a doctorate in Computer Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is also an angel investor and a mentor to young entrepreneurs and IT professionals.
Founder of KITE Mongolia
Bolormaa has over 20 years of experience in banking and finance and held senior management positions at Golomt Bank (and its holding entity Golomt Financial Group), Mandal Insurance, and the Development Bank of Mongolia. Her banking experience also includes nine years in Risk Management at Deutsche Bank (Tokyo / NY) and as department head at Ardyn Bank. She served on the boards of Mandal Insurance LLC, Mongolian Stock Exchange, and Development Bank of Mongolia and currently serves as a board member of Golomt Bank. She is the founder of a non-bank financial institution that provides funding to MSME in Mongolia (DEM NBFI) as well as a financial advisory firm (B.F.A.S LLC). Bolormaa is also the founder of Kite Mongolia, the first accelerator program for social impact start-up companies. She is a founder of the Women Entrepreneur Mentors Club and the President of Women Entrepreneurs Council at Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Naomi is an Experienced Senior Associate within BDO USA LLP Third Party Attestation practice focusing on SOC1, SOC 2, SOC3 reports mainly for technology clients based on cloud environments and HIPAA/ HITECH/ISO 27001 examinations. Other services where Naomi is helping on include data privacy, agreed upon procedures. Psychologist; Research and Training Development Manager at NPC&Mandal LLC; Founder of Fullbox and Co-founder Family College
Delgermend has co-founded NPC&Mandal LLC, a psychological management consultant company in 2013. She has extensive experience in many fields such as consulting, counseling, and psychological research. She focuses her research and counseling on behavior analysis of adults. In her previous role at Golomt Bank, Delgermend led and re-designed the employee hiring process and developed a persona-based human resource services to over 2000 employees. She provides consulting services for Human Resource departments of small and medium businesses in Mongolia. Her area of expertise includes: employee engagement, productivity enhancement, research based HR policies, and talent development. In 2019, she founded FullBox, a toolbox with the aim of simplifying psychology for individuals. In 2020, she founded Family College (www.familycollege.mn ), an online interactive self-help website that provides psychology video workshops for couples and parents. Delgermend holds a Bachelor’s degree in Science in Psychology and Family Social Science from the University of Minnesota.

Tseegii works as a corporate recruiter at Amazon based in Tokyo, Japan. Amazon is an American multinational technology company focusing on e-commerce, cloud computing, digital streaming, artificial intelligence and many other innovative businesses. She has been in charge of hiring and developing talents for 15 departments at her Japan office, which has about 7000 corporate employees. Previously, she worked as Section Manager at Hays Specialist Recruitment Agency, growing their health care and pharmaceutical area. Aside from her professional duties, she dedicates her time to environmental and sustainability activities, Diversity & Inclusion initiatives and coaching and leadership programs. Tseegii holds a Masters Degree in Development Economics and Bachelor`s Degree in International Strategic Studies from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan.

Bolor-Erdene holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Humanities in Ulaanbaatar and from Shines College in Singapore. He has over seven years of experience working in the Human Resources department. Currently, Bolor-Erdene works at LendMN as a Human Resource Manager. "LendMN NBFI" JSC is a non-collateralized low-cost, consumer micro-loan service provider through LendMN application that successfully introduced a FinTech business model in Mongolia. In his role, he focuses on talent management, people operations, and training and development that fosters their employees.

Muralist and Fine Artist | Heesco TM
Khosnaran Khurelbaatar, known by the artist name Heesco™, is a Mongolian-Australian muralist and fine artist, based in Melbourne, Australia. Heesco graduated Sydney College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Visual Arts degree in 2005 and since then has cemented his name as one of the leading urban-contemporary artists, specialising in public mural artworks. In a prolific career spanning two decades, Heesco has had 7 solo exhibitions, numerous group exhibitions, and a string of high-profile collaborative projects, with profile features in national and international media and publications. Stylistically, Heesco draws influences from a spectacularly wide range of visual styles, from hyper realism, gestural abstraction and surrealism, to pop art and comic book illustration, intertwined with socio-political narratives, contemporary art sensibilities, and a healthy dose of Mongolian cultural references. His artworks stand out effortlessly with his unique concepts, technical brilliance and captivating visuals.
Art Director | Publicis
Nomin is an Art Director in the advertising industry, currently based in Seattle. She received her M.S. in Branding/ Art Direction from VCU Brandcenter. Her work experience includes a wide range of advertising campaigns (TV, digital/social, experiential) for clients like T-Mobile, Netflix, 20th Television, Nestle, Unilever, and Miller Lite.

Bat-Orgil Tsolmonjargal is the founder of “Gertoon” company and writer and director of “Munkh Tunkh” animated TV show. Since 2017, he worked as an artist, background painter, and sound special effect artist for “Onnts Dumd” animation, providing voice overs for characters Dambjaa, Sandag, and Gombjoo. He holds a degree in Journalism from Mongolian National University and is a member of the Beer Night Studio.

Mongolian Specialist | The Library of Congress
Linguist, translator, writer and educator. Saruul-Erdene graduated from Mongolian National University of Education with a BA degree in Mongolian Language and Literature in 1994. Later, he earned his MA and Doctor’s degree in Linguistics in 1996 and 2002, respectively. Moreover, Dr Saruul-Erdene got invited as a visiting professor to the University of Istanbul from 2000 to 2001; and to the University of Indiana from 2002 to 2007. He also worked as a professor at the Foreign Service Institute, US Department of State. Since 2019, he has been working as a Mongolian Language Specialist at the Library of Congress. Currently, Dr. Professor Saruul-Erdene Myagmar serves as a President of the Mongolian Cultural Center in the USA, and a visiting professor of Mongolian State University of Culture and Art. He also authors Washington DC’ area’s local chapter of the “Daily News”, which is one of the leading Mongolian National Newspaper.

In 2001, He established the Southern Mongolian Human Rights Information Center (SMHRIC), a New York based human rights organization dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights of the Mongolian people in the Chinese-occupied Southern Mongolia; he has been the Director of the SMRHIC since then until present; He is the editor-in-chief of the SMHRIC organizational newsletter “Southern Mongolia Watch” that is published in English, Japanese, Chinese and Mongolian; Since 1998 after his arrival in the United States, Enghebatu Togochog has testified on human rights conditions of Southern Mongolia before the United Nations Human Rights Council, United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, United Nations Forum on Minority Issues, United Nations Committee Against Torture, United States Congressional Commission on China, the United States Department of State, European Parliament and Scottish Parliament; He has been interviewed by major news media including TIME magazine, CNN, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, BBC, The Guardian, Reuters, Voice of America and Radio Free Asia, and many other news media outlets in European, Japanese, Chinese and Mongolian languages; His work includes the translation of the autobiography of Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, President of the Republic of Kalmykia; The Struggle for Civil Rights of the Kalmyk People by Dr. Djab Naminov Burchinov, The United Nations Declaration on Rights of Indigenous Peoples; From Dictatorship to Democracy by Dr. Gene Sharp; Way Out of Southern Mongolia by Mr. Hada, a long time political prisoner and human rights defender; translation from Japanese to English of Genocide on the Mongolian Steppe by Dr. Oghnos Tsogt; He speaks Mongolian, Chinese, Japanese and English.

Maralmaa serves as the Executive Director for the Zorig Foundation, a leading Mongolian non-profit organization that is widely known through its activities and programs for the advancement of democracy, youth and education, and community development. Previously, she worked as the Programs Coordinator at the Foundation, developing innovative programs to empower marginalized communities such as rural women and unemployed youth. Aside from her professional duties, she dedicates her time to the Global Shapers Community of the World Economic Forum and serves on the board of Young Professionals' Group-Mongolia. Maralmaa holds a degree from Brigham Young University-ldaho and is selected as Obama Foundation Scholar at Columbia University.
Sr. Project Assistant | International Organization for Migration
Munkhchuluun Serd-Yanjiv serves as a counter-trafficking specialist for the IOM Mongolia, the UN Migration agency, where she is responsible for safe repatriation of victims of trafficking and implementation of counter trafficking projects. She holds BA in International Relations from the School of Foreign Affairs, National University of Mongolia, and MA in International Studies from EWHA Woman’s University in Seoul, Republic of Korea. She has been working for the past 8 years in local and international non-government organizations in providing assistance to victims of trafficking, building capacity among law enforcement officials for better prosecution of trafficking cases, and raising awareness among vulnerable young girls and women to prevent and protect from labour and sexual exploitation.

Belguun’s passion for human rights and intersectional feminisms is deeply rooted in her strong matriarchal lineage. From a young age, she learned great life lessons from her grandmother and single mother’s teachings. Because of her lived experience, she became committed to advocating for economic, political, and social justice for all womxn. Belguun’s immigrant and minority woman identity drive her to create sustainable social change where womxn, girls and gender non-conforming folks have the right to self-determination and safe spaces to thrive. She is deeply committed to dismantling patriarchy and all oppressive systems that marginalize womxn all over the world. Prior to joining UAF, Belguun worked as a program manager for the largest ethnic chamber of commerce in California, the CalAsian Chamber of Commerce. Also, she interned at the Consulate General of Mongolia, San Francisco researching strategies of economic and political development. Belguun holds M.A. in International Studies, focusing on Human Rights from the University of San Francisco and B.A. in International Relations, focusing on Peace Keeping and Security from the University of California, Davis.

With more than ten years of experience supporting governments across Asia, Tim has built helped develop partnerships and raise funding to support economic and social development within the region. Tim has spent many year also working in Mongolia on issues related to human rights, reproductive health and ending violence against women and girls. He is currently in Mongolia working as the Country Director for People In Need. Tim believes strongly that to build a better world we must start by making it a more inclusive one.

Battulga Odgerel
Research Analyst | Energy Policy Research Foundation
Battulga Odgerel is a research analyst at the Energy Policy Research Foundation (EPRINC) in Washington, DC. He has also served as a policy fellow for clean energy innovation at the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) and an associate at Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA), and conducted his graduate practicum with DC Sustainable Energy Utility on energy efficiency. Battulga holds a master’s degree in energy policy and international economics from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, Washington, D.C.
Research Analyst | Federal Reserve Bank of New York
While attending the University of Finance and Economics in Mongolia, Uyanga made a decision to pursue her studies in the States. She transferred from Laney Community College to UC Berkeley and graduated with an economics degree with honors in 2018. During her studies at UC Berkeley, Uyanga worked as a research assistant with UC Berkeley’s Institute for Research on Labor and Employment on issues related to wage and labor. In the summer of her third year, she was selected to participate in American Economic Association’s Summer Training Program and Scholarship Program, a prestigious program that prepares talented undergraduates for doctoral programs in economics. Currently, Uyanga works as a research analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Ph.D Student and Research/Teaching Assistant, University of Albany, State University of New York
Battulga is a PhD student in Public Administration and Policy and Research/Teaching Assistant at the University at Albany, State University of New York. His research interests include e-governance, digital divide, and automated decision-making in the public sector. Tulga has a cross-sector experience both domestically and internationally. In Mongolia, he has worked for The Asia Foundation, Ulaanbaatar Citizens’ Representatives (City) Council, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the US, Tulga has worked for the City of Huntington Park (a municipal government in Los Angeles County), Innolume, Inc (a quantum-dot laser manufacturer), and US Market Access Center (a high-tech business accelerator). Tulga holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Southern California, a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in International Business degrees from San Jose State University. He enjoys watching hockey, reading, and meeting new people.

Oyuntsetseg (Oyu) is the Founder and Director of Khadaan Cosmetics, a skincare and makeup brand started in 2016 that is produced in the United States in accordance with European standards for Mongolian women. With no added chemicals and eco-friendly ingredients, the brand sets itself apart from others while staying environmentally responsible. Oyu graduated from the University of Humanities with a Journalism degree and previously worked as a Project Officer at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Upon coming to the United States, she spent two years researching and studying the skincare and cosmetics industry, labs, and products to ultimately start Khadaan Cosmetics in December of 2016. Uyanga founded “UR Mine”, a children’s clothing brand in November of 2017, inspired by and dedicated to her oldest son. The brand got exposure to the public through its successful participation in “Shark Tank Mongolia” Season 2 and prides itself in Mongolian culture and origin. UR Mine’s mission is to create happy, loving memories in Mongolian families through children’s clothing and matching family sets, and currently sells through 4 locations in UB, 4 locations in the countrysides, and 2 online platforms.

She is a PI of a double-blind, parallel-group individually randomized placebo-controlled, phase III trial, testing the effect of vitamin D3 (14000 IU weekly) on acquiring LTBI in 8,851 school age children (6-16 years) in Mongolia. She founded the Mongolian Health Initiative NGO, which has conducted nutrition research and capacity building projects in Mongolia since 2004. In 2016, Dr. Ganmaa and her team launched the Zero TB Mongolia Initiative to improve national TB diagnosis and treatment.

Enkhmunkh joined Sant School in 2009, shortly after graduating from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. His career began in Sant School as an international relations manager, and shortly after he was promoted to the principal of the school. Enkhmunkh is passionate about technology and its effect on young children in Mongolia. His passion for both technology and education has led him to initiate the One Laptop Per Child program in Mongolia. Enkhmunkh holds an MA in Education from the Stanford Graduate School of Education.

Shinee founded Blue Sky Child Care and After School Program in 2015 while she was completing her Early Childhood education degree. Located in Los Angeles California, the Blue Sky Child Care provides creative programs for children ranging from 6 months through 16 years old, and has an emphasis on math, science, and languages. Many Mongolian families in the Los Angeles area have benefited from the program over the last 5 years. In 2018, Shinee became a Music Together trained/licensed teacher. With her love of music and her ability to connect with children, teaching music was a natural choice for Shinee. Her contribution to the Mongolian community has been recognized and awarded by the City Council of Los Angeles. Shinee’s goal is to expand her learning center into a larger dual-language early childhood education center in the near future.

Solongo is a short range planning engineer at Diavik Diamond Mine Inc, Rio Tinto. She previously worked as a mining engineer for Shell Canada and Oyu Tolgoi Mine. Throughout her mining engineering career, her main focuses were delivering mine plans (both short and long range), mine data analysis and introducing front end technologies to mining industry. She is passionate about learning different mining experiences in improving overall productivity of the mine, ensuring effective operations where it is applicable without compromising safety. She holds bachelor degree in Environmental Science from National University of Mongolia and master’s degree in Mining Engineering from University of British Columbia.
