Mongolians are Researchers

Recording:

To kick off our bi-weekly virtual series event, we have invited Mongolian research professionals across various industries including astronomy to clean energy. The event will kick off with a panel discussion followed by small group discussions and networking opportunities. Please be prepared to turn on your camera and microphone during the discussions.

Guest Speakers:

  • Tuguldur Sukhbold | NASA Hubble Fellow at Ohio State University

Tuguldur is an astrophysicist, currently working as a NASA Hubble fellow at the Ohio State University. He is interested in theoretical and computational high-energy astrophysics, with an emphasis on massive stars and supernovae. His research is focused on understanding the mechanism of supernova explosions, the formation of neutron stars and black holes, and the origin of heavy elements. He came to the U.S. in 2007, and holds degrees from University of Arizona (BSci, 11') and University of California Santa Cruz (PhD, 16').

  • Uuganbayar Otgonbaatar | Corporate Strategy Manager at Exelon

Ugi Otgonbaatar is a corporate strategy manager at Exelon Corporation. Since joining the company in 2016, Ugi has been working for Exelon’s corporate R&D Partnership program focusing on early stage energy technologies including clean hydrogen generation, energy storage, and technologies for repurposing the existing nuclear fleet. Ugi holds B.S and Ph.D. in Nuclear Science and Engineering from MIT with research experience in thermal hydraulics, computational materials science and has previously worked for the R&D groups of Electricité de France, General Electric and Tokyo Electric Power company.

  • Oyut Amarjargal | Research Associate, Spatial and Economic Analysis at Earth Innovation Institute

Oyut holds a Master’s degree in Geographic Information Science and a dual Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Geography from Clark University. Throughout her academic career, she has developed a passion for socioeconomic inquiry and analysis, and for looking at how environmental issues impact our world. At EII, Oyut works on economic and spatial analyses for research projects related to sustainable development, climate change, and deforestation. She also focuses on the linkages between the design and evaluation of both local and national policies for reducing deforestation and accelerating reforestation. In her free time, Oyut enjoys playing soccer with friends, strumming the ukelele, and learning languages.

  • Tsatsral Batstengel | Chemical Engineering PhD Candidate at University of California Santa Barbara

Tsatsral Battsengel is a chemical engineering Ph.D. candidate at the University of California Santa Barbara. Her research focuses on understanding atomic-scale environments of heterogeneous zeolite catalysts. She is a Summa Cum Laude graduate from the University of Michigan with B.S. in chemical engineering in 2016. Born and raised in Mongolia, she co-founded the Mongolian Cultural Organization (MCO) to raise awareness about the Mongolian community at the University of Michigan through community service and cultural and social events. Tsatsral is an avid runner and currently training for her next marathon.

Summary:

Our first virtual event was so insightful and fun at the same time. Mongolian researchers are passionate professionals and their discoveries impact the world around us in many ways. We’ll share the panel discussion recording soon on our YouTube channel.
